No build, no matter how simple is.... simple. Every one has its particulars and in this case it was the magic Asus A8N-SLI Motherboard and it's 4 GB of RAM, or rather it's lack of allowing windows to USE it's 4 GB of RAM. Bios for this particular motherboard have not been updated through Asus since 2010 I believe but my build was so old that the Bios was still out of date. Booting off a thumb drive with Mr. Pink calling the shots remotely we manged to update an antiquated bios and lo an behold, 4 GB of RAM.
Below is what windows looks like before the update, you can see only 2.75 GB available. When you fix it it simply states 4.00 GB which it does now.
We even made sure it was new RAM:
Mr. Pink worked his tweaks and got us to a really stable 891 or so kh/s. The temperature is still decent at 80 degrees Celsius. I think with a mix of more tweaking and better cooling we can break 900. 1000 may be pushing it but I am sure going to try. For those numbers though it will take a lot of trial and error, mostly on Mr. Pinks part. He has the heart of a miner.
I now feel like I am contributing to out efforts in a realistic way. If I happen to make any money any time soon I will certainly be either upgrading my machine with another card and power supply or building another machine. This stuff is fun if not anything else. I love the fact that our old gear is actually useful now and in a capacity we never would have dreamed.
More to come.
Computers are a pain in the ass. This I can attest from being self taught and fucking up repeatedly while trying to make one properly boot. Good luck in the future!
